Fostering research and innovation is crucial to advancing environmental development

Staff Reporter: Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, has emphasized the paramount importance of research in tackling climate change and ensuring environmental sustainability. She asserted that research must extend beyond academic exercises to become practical and people-centric. Only through research-driven innovations can environmentally responsible policies be formulated, ultimately ensuring a habitable planet for future generations.

The Environmental Advisor made these remarks on Wednesday as the Chief Guest at the inauguration of the "Research, Innovation, and Publication Fair 2025" held at the Intellectuals’ Square of the University of Chattogram.

In her address, she stressed the need for intensified research on critical issues such as climate change, environmental conservation, and the sustainable utilization of natural resources. Calling for research that is scientific, objective, and dedicated to human welfare, she underscored the necessity of environmentally sustainable technology and innovation to secure a better future.

She further urged the University of Chattogram to declare its campus free from single-use plastics and noise pollution, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to sustainability.
Honoring the distinguished scientist and researcher Jamal Nazrul Islam, the Advisor formally inaugurated the "Research, Innovation, and Publication Fair 2025." Following the inauguration, she toured the exhibition stalls.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Professor Dr. Muhammad Yahya Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chattogram; Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic); Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration); Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Mr. M. Nurul Alam, Trustee of the A.F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation; and Ms. Sadaf Saz Siddiqui, Member of the Jamal Nazrul Research Center's Governing Board.

Notably, the Research Fair features over a hundred stalls representing schools, colleges, university departments, research laboratories, and institutes from within and beyond the Chattogram Division. These institutions are showcasing their research endeavors and contributions from the past year.
