Qatari amir departs wrapping up 2-day official visit

Staff Reporter: Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani left Dhaka on Tuesday after the two-day official visit to Bangladesh.

During the visit, five agreements and five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed.

A special aircraft, carrying the Qatari amir, left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the afternoon. Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud saw the Qatari head of the state.

The amir of Qatar, on a special invitation of President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, arrived in Dhaka on Monday. On Tuesday, the amir of rich Gulf nation had a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office that covered various issues of mutual interest. Before that the amir and the prime minister had a one-to-one meeting. Later, the two leaders witnessed the signing of the agreements and MoUs.

Following the events at the Prime Minister’s Office, the amir travelled to the Bangabhaban to attend a lunch hosted by President Shahabuddin in the honour of the dignitary.

In his meeting with the amir, President Shahabuddin sought Qatari investment in Bangladesh’s special economic zones.
